Rodney D. Anderson

Rochester, Minnesota

I grew up on a farm near Breckenridge, Minnesota, attended a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Breckenridge High School.  I graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics and a minor in Mathematics, and enjoyed playing baseball for the Bison.

I earned my J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law.  While in law school I met my wife, Julie.  We married in 1981, and have two children.  I earned my L.L.M in Taxation from Georgetown Law Center in Washington, DC.  I returned to the Twin Cities and practiced law for many years with a large law firm, before moving to Rochester, MN and opening my own firm.  In my time as an attorney I have drafted thousands and thousands of estate plans for people from every walk of life.  I enjoy meeting and getting to know people.

I believe in giving back to my profession.  In that regard, I have taught Estate Planning at Hamline School of Law, drafted deskbook materials for my fellow attorneys to use in drafting estate plans for their clients, and lectured on estate planning topics for continuing education conferences.  Currently, I am serving my second six-year term on the Minnesota Trust and Estate Council, a group that drafts and recommends legislation to the Minnesota Legislature in the area of wills, trusts, estates, and estate taxation.

I believe in giving back to my community.  I have indulged my love of baseball by coaching kids from the coach-pitch level through VFW, high school and American Legion baseball.  I have served on boards for many not-for-profit organizations in the Rochester area, and am currently serving on the Gift of Life Transplant House board.   I also give presentations around the community on estate planning topics.  In my spare time I enjoy golfing, fishing, boating, and spending time with my children and grandchildren.
